Title: Nocturna, Queen of the Night

Doll Artist: Pepper Hume Profile / Articles / Webpage

Medium:...Mixed Media

Description: She stands 24" tall on her lunar fragment (27" in all). Her shoulders, arms and head are a mixture of pink and pearl Sculpy polymer clay. The rest of her body is paper clay with black Sculpy shoes and painted stockings. Her shoebuckles are antique. Her gown and drape are all beaded with black iris beads. The lace hood under her pouf headdress drips with white iris rain fringe. She has real eyelashes

Inspirations: Her gown is inspired by Erte fashions prior to 1920. The oddly adolescent, Oriental face is based on one of Frank Frazetta's fantasy women. The Queen of the Night is not a particularly nice character in Mozart's opera, "The Magic Flute" which might explain her enigmatic expression. But she is a coloratura of enormous bravura so perhaps we can forgive her.
